UWG40

UWG40 is extruded and slotted with a thickness of 40mm, which is stronger and heavier than UWG30. It is usually used asstairtread, and widely applied to industrial areas. There are two types with 250mm width or 500mm width.

UWG30

UWG30 is extruded and slotted with a thickness of 30mm, which possesses a high bearing capacity. It is usually used as stair tread, and widely applied to industrial areas. Expanded metal stair treads are welded in expanded metal, perimeter frame and longitudinal stiffeners. They are made in sizes and shapes according to customer's request. The most commonly used material is aluminum and stainless steel. There are two types with 250mm width or 500mm width. Fabricated Aluminum stair treads are available in Aluminum Rectangular Bar and Aluminum I-Bar. Treads can be ordered with a plain or serrated surface.

Expanded grating provides secure footing for walkways, catwalks, floors, platforms, and stair treads. Light in weight, High in strength, Low in cost. Heavy duty grating prevents wasteful over design. Savings of up to 50% over other steel grating alternatives are not uncommon. Cutting and fitting can easily be done by one or two people with the proper cutting and welding equipment. Expanded metal gratings/Stair Treads are used on shallow wetland or sandy soils. They also can be used on roads that don’t have high spots. As skidding causes the grating to move, this option is best limited to hauling and forwarding.

UWG13

Grating is heavy duty expanded metal produced from carbon steel sheet and plate which contains no joints or welds, as each sheet is a single piece of sturdy steel. Lightweight and economical, expanded metal grating is ideal for use wherever a strong, durable, lightweight surface is needed. It is the standard product specified by engineers for use in catwalks, ramps, stairs, platforms, heavy duty shelving, truck-cab safety screens, ship and off-shore rig flooring and in partitions where high security is important. The high percentage of open area, characteristic of expanded metal grating, allows snow, water and oil to drain off easily, thus maintaining the excellent slip resistant surface. The same high percentage of open area also allows excellent passage of heat and light, and contributes to walkway cleanliness. Where building maintenance and safety are important considerations, these features are outstanding.

UWG22

Expanded Metal Grating is a heavy-duty typed expanded metal, made of steel plate which is slit and expanded in a cold-drawing operation. Designed especially for use as a lightweight open steel flooring, is ideal for flooring, catwalks, platforms and stair treads,where principal use is for light storage and foot traffic. Its low cost and light weight, combined with high strength,make for a most economical construction.

Although there are standard designs, what make our process so versatile is the pattern variations you can choose from. These patterns can be specified to achieve whatever characteristics are most critical for your specific applications.

When selecting expanded metals, there are many considerations to keep in mind. For instance, increased pattern size alters the open area and improves cost effectiveness,while varied strand width changes both the appearance and weight.

UWG22 is similar to UWG13, it is 22mm thick also with knurled surface. It is stronger than UWG13, it could be used in platforms or walkway areas which requires better bearing capacity.

Expanded Grating Process and Installation

Aluminum is ductile and with good extensibility, so it can be stretched and expanded. Expanded grating is made from aluminum, aluminum might be the only material to form expanded grating.

After melting and extruding, the aluminum ingot becomes aluminum profile. Different from aluminum grating, the expanded aluminum profile shall be expanded before aging, cause after aging, the aluminum becomes tough which could be broken if expanding.

Due to the good malleability, aluminum could be made to expanded grating. Expanded grating is born to have the knurled surface, no need to serrate it. The knurled surface makes expanded grating sparkling and anti-skip, which is applied to kinds of areas requiring non-slipped. There are 13mm, 22mm, 30mm and 40mm thickness expanded grating, while 13mm and 22mm have the same shape and 30mm has the same shape to 40mm expanded grating. 30mm and 40mm expanded grating are stronger than 13mm and 22mm expanded grating, there are 2 kinds of widths for 30mm and 40mm which are 250mm width and 500mm width.

For installation, the most recommended method is using clips. This method is applied to kinds of walkways or roof tops. Another method is welding like aluminum grating. Other methods as per customers’ requirements are available.
